Re: Best Oregon 100 mile Stretch
I vote for Ollalie Lake to the Columbia River via Paradise Park & Eagle Creek trail because:

   scenic
   plenty of water
   plenty of wildflowers
resupply point halfway at Timberline Lodge
   easy treadway
easy to get into Portland from Cascade Locks. I used an airport shuttle service, I've heard since that if I had thought to check on the Stevenson WA side, I could have saved a lot of money by taking a bus.
Getting to Ollalie is a little trickier though. I used a friend in Portland.

If you've got time for another 64 miles, starting from Mackenzie Pass adds the Belknap Lava beds, Three Finger Jack, Mt Jefferson and Jefferson Park. Getting there is fairly easy using either bus (Central Oregon Breeze) or Amtrak to Bend (train to Chemult, bus to Bend), then arranging a ride through the folks at Sisters Motor Lodge in Sisters, (541) 549-2551.

Starting even further south... Amtrak from Portland to Chemult is inexpensive and pleasant. Arrange train station pickup, lodging and shuttle to the trail through Gidget at The Featherbed Inn in Chemult. gidget1 at featherbedinn.com 541.365.2235. Amtrak station is in downtown Portland, an easy walk from REI. Do plan on it arriving in Chemult later than scheduled, though it was only 32 minutes late when I took it.

While I'm plugging...I've always enjoyed staying at the AYH hostel in Portland. 3031 NE Hawthorne Blvd 503.236.3380 portlandhostel.com

This years hike is Kennedy Meadows to Bishop Pass trail. Gotta get some exposure to altitude in preparation for going to South America next year.

  Splat!
