Extract from a statement issued by the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center:

Firefighters worked hard yesterday [Fri] and throughout the night on the lightning caused, wind driven, G.W. Fire. The G.W. Fire, which started in the Mt. Washington Wilderness, has now grown to approximately 1200 acres and has burned within three miles of Black Butte Ranch. The fire is 5% contained.....

There will be information boards and staff in the Sisters, Black Butte Ranch, and Camp Sherman areas, and along Highway 20.

The Pacific Crest Trail is open; however, due to the fire there is a special area closure just east of the trail in the Mt. Washington Wilderness.

Due to the fire and fire equipment access needs, road closures have been put into place in the fire area. These road closures include: all roads west of George McCalister including the 1028 road, the 2067 road, spur roads west of the 2061 road, and the 500 spur roads from Big Lake to Old Cache Creek Toll Station.
