Just spoke with Donna (L-Rod) Saufley on the phone and she asked me to post to pct-l since internet is out and her computer is still packed up...

Donna and Jeff, Hiker Heaven, the horses, dogs, etc. are ALL fine!!!

They did have an "exciting night", though - were advised to evacuate and loaded up all the animals, computer, important papers, etc. for evacuation...
The fire started near Agua Dulce (upper Mint Canyon, a mile or so (?) from Hiker Heaven) and appeared MUCH closer than it actually was during the night...
They have had no fire damage, but some minor wind damage due to 60-80 MPH winds (blown off roof tiles, etc. - their neighbors lost $10,000 patio cover/addition to the winds, however)...
On driving out last night, they noted the fire was mostly across the Sierra Highway and (rapidly) moving away from AD proper - so they returned to Hiker Heaven, but remain 'packed up' and ready to evacuate until the 'all clear' notice is given...
She also noted that there were "some hikers staying with them" that helped during the packing/evacuation process...
Donna and Jeff are both at home today - watching the news, observing the smoke plume, and 'standing by'...
They have really appreciated all the concerned calls... "Thank you!"

I'm relieved that Donna and Jeff and Hiker Heaven are safe and sound!

Happy trails!!!
Jim Payne
