Hi,

I live in Crescent City, about 75 miles north of Arcata. I know just a
little about Arcata.

Arcata is the home of Humboldt State University; a school with a lot of
environmental awareness. The community also has that awareness. Aracta
is often referred to as the Berkeley (CA) of the North.

Generally, winters (Dec - Mar) are cool and wet with many cloudy days. There are mountains to the east with some trails. The PCT is a ways away and access is by circuitous mountain and river valley road.
Arcata is close to Redwood National & State Parks and Six Rivers National Forest.
Arcata has kept out big box retail and has a popular town square with stores all around.

Hopefully others will also contribute.
