Love the term, "gram weenie"!! Well, guess we'll never see your face cuz I'm certain BG will NEVER shave his! Besides, your beard conveniently saves "snacks" to munch later.........

Besides it protect a part of my face from bugs. so there!

It's for all those hikers out there with one lone tooth! But I never thought of it as a weight saving measure. Since most of us have 2 of a lot of things, perhaps we could sell off one of them and REALLY go ultra!

Actually, I had the same thought when contemplating having my gallbladder ripped out........hey!!! Less weight to carry!!!

 You crack me up!

A while back I pointed out that a true ultra light gram weenie would have all but two teeth pulled to save weight. With careful chewing two teeth are all that are really needed to eat. A set of store bought teeth could ride in the bounce box for town gluttony. Another thing, does a hiker really need toe nails? Just think of the energy needed to pick them up with every step, mile after mile. The list goes on. For some reason these suggestions were not received well.

     Bob-

Where have you been hiding??? Anyone with that kind of ability to tell a funny story should be out here making us laugh ALL THE TIME!!! Man, that's a classic!! Nothing worse than being attacked by a day pack. Hopefully your 2 inch blade was enough to stab your pack into submission.....

Plus you have a knee biter for a dog, just like me!! Good! Bring him on the trail next year. We'll see you out there.

I don't use my knife to cut wood. I don't cook on the trail or build fires. I just need to defend myself against my backpack occasionally......hehehe.....And my pack is so big, that a 2 inch blade won't do it!

 Wheeew

It weighs almost nothing. If you want the larger blade for self defense how about loaning me $500 before you start your hike. Several years ago I was doing a day hike on the Noble Canyon Trail (in southern Cal near the PCT). There had been several big cat sightings near by and I was trying to convince my self that between my 2 inch knife and attack Yorkie (5 pounds of raging hell) I was safe. One of the reasons I was on the trail was to explore an old mine shaft I'd seen on a previous hike. I'd gone in a few feet when there was a scary noise form outside. I checked to ensure my trusty mini knife was ready and found that I'd left it home. The noise was from my pack falling off the log I'd left it on. If it had been a big cat and I'd had my tiny knife I probably have used it to cut my own throat and
 get it over with.

Hope to see you on the trail (what ever part that may be open) in 2008
         Bob

You gotta admit....I DO have a way of getting your attention.......

Anyway, I'll be having a lot of gear questions over the next couple months and here's one of them:

I used to carry a big honkin' Swiss Army Knife on the trail....had a lot of the gadgets and gizmos that I never used. Then, several months ago, in my effort to drop pack weight, I bought a small (about 2 inches) Swiss Army knife. My knife criteria are: A blade, scissors, toothpick and tweezers. Trouble is when I hiked with the small one, the blade was so ridiculously small that when I fantasized about having to fend off a wild beast with it, it would be more like, "Thop you thilly thavage"!! If you get my drift. Here's the rub: I'm sold on Swiss Army knives in general, but there doesn't seem to be anything inbetween the big honkers and the "Playschool" version. Suggestions?

           Danke,

           Wheeew
