I've  only met one hiker that hiked barefoot, and he seemed just fine.   
Thoughts?  Not saying I'm going to do it..........just  curious......
 
It can be done, the Barefoot Sister's yo-you'ed the AT mostly  barefoot.  
They wrote a book about it, or two.  One for each  direction.
