Good evening, all,

Those of you who have hiked the PCT alternate Eagle Creek Trail into the Columbia Gorge may remember a cliff about 100 yds. south the trailhead parking area. The face of the cliff is spanned by a short bridge. A recent rock/dirt fall covered the trail and slightly damaged the south end of the bridge. PCTA crews have been working on the problem, and last weekend we removed some of the fallen material and opened the trail. Unfortunately, a large .... and likely unstable .... cliff face rock outcropping is threatening more damage so the bridge has been substantially removed, and attempts are being made to drop all, or part of, the outcrop.

The weather this autumn has been outstanding, and closing one of the most popular trails in the Gorge is not exactly what the public wants. That lower section of the trail is interesting this time of year because Eagle Creek is full of hundreds of large salmon spawning in the shallow water. Following is a link to some of the photos of the damage and subsequent work.
