[pct-l] sierra thunderstorms

one thing for folks to keep in mind this year, as you may be breathing a
bit of a sigh of relief that at least the snow in the sierra may not be
a big challenge, is that along with high temps in the owens & central
valleys come afternoon thunderstorms in the sierra. we had lots of them
last year during the big heat wave in late june and early july, from km
to tahoe. probably the most intense hail/lightning/thunder i've ever
experienced, and it caused significant delays having to wait out the
weather to cross some passes. and at this point it's looking like we may
be in for a long hot summer...

so be prepared for the weather. make sure you have your rain gear, and
think about carrying an extra day or two of food in the sierra, as you
may lose a day or two getting stuck at the base of a pass. i had to wait
out the weather at forester and mather, and ran short of food because of it.
