I vote for Lone Pine.  That  might be a nice dovetail with MeadowEd's KM 
event.  I wonder if Cottonwood  Pass Parking lot area would be a great place to 
have an event --- "Kickoff into  the Sierras".  It is easy to get to from the 
trail and town.  It is a  great place for training before heading into the 
Sierras and snow melt and  water crossings.  It would be a great goal for everyone 
to hang in there to  make to the event and recharge.  Lots of rides down to 
Lone Pine to  resupply.  This would make the long stretch from KM to VVR much 
more  doable.
 
The road is probably not even  open in June do to normal snow conditions.  
So, forget the  idea.
