Jon Chiappa abandoned his attempt after 3 1/2 days at mile 120 (Vermilion).
The race for the record continuous today, Monday July 30, 6:00AM.

Aaron Sorensen the 34 yr. old adventure runner vs Michael Popov the 29 yr.
old hard rock marathon endurance runner.

Aaron is more of a combination runner-backpacker while Michael is more of a
pure endurance runner who has placed 4th in the San Diego 100 in 2005 &
2006.

Aaron's attempt is is fashioned after Al Shaver's 2006 attempt....ultra,
ultra light....no stove, sleeping bag or tent....he plans to run all night
and sleep just 1-2 hrs. during the day at lower,
warmer elevations. Total pack weight including food (trail mix & Hammer Jet
perpetruin powder) and water under 14 lb.

Michael is incorporating more backpacking strategy. He will carry a tarp
tent, sleeping bag, and a pocket rocket stove to cook one meal a day, the
rest will be energy gels & power bars.
His total pack weight including food & water will be under 20 lb.

Funny.......the combination hiker-runner applying more of a trail runner
strategy while the pure runner is applying more of a backpacker strategy.

May the best man win........I know they will be running their hearts out
fully expecting Angelina to be at the finish line for the winner and
Switchback for the looser.
