A couple of weeks ago (or more!) I mentioned the '94 blizzard on Mt. Laguna
on April 26th.  It wasn't dangerous per se, but it got our attention.  Snow,
cold, and wind.   The alpine chaparral was lovely the next day.

Every year is different, ymmv, etc, etc.

Ceanothus (see-ah-no-thus) or California lilac:  Shrubs or small trees,
often with divaricate, sometimes spiny, twigs...[flowers] small but showy,
white to blue or purplish, sometimes lavender or pinkish, borne in terminal
or lateral panicles or umbellike cymes.
