[pct-l] Parcher's Resort over Bishop Pass

Jeff - have you actually been through the route that you are recommending?

As I remember there are Three Passes to go over between the PCT in Palasades
basin and Dusy Basin below Bishop Pass - all of it cross country, unmarked,
and definitely requiring some route finding skill and an ice ax. To get to
South lake on this route you have to go accross 4 passes - Bishop Pass is
the most northernly and is on a trail ( but it was under snow even in august
one year ). Knapsack pass is the easiest of the 3 cross country passes, and
is rated as a class1, the other two passes are higher, more difficult:
Potluck pass is class 2 and Cirque Pass is class 3. This last pass is quite
steep near the bottom and may not be so easy to find. Having done this
route twice alone, I would be wary about recommending it to anybody but
somebody that has climbed by themselves and has a proven record doing cross
country routes by themselves. In early season when one would be on snow
above 11,000 feet most of the time, I would give it a pass ( even if I have
done it twice).

Still, It might come in handly sometimes and always good to know in an
emergency. Thanks for the information about Parchers.

Goforth
