[pct-l] hiking in rain gear

The biggest danger of hiking in the rain is becoming hypothermic, especially if the rain is accompanied by significant winds. So, in my opinion, the goal of rain gear is not to keep you dry; it is to keep you warm.

Along with this, is the necessity of keeping sufficiently warm in camp during a rain event. If your down sleeping bag gets wet, it loses almost all of its insulating ability. A synthetic sleeping bag does not suffer from this detriment nearly as much. Either way, a good tent is well advised. Does carrying a good tent and a synthetic (vs. down) sleeping bag add to your pack weight? Of course it does.
