You bring to mind the thru-hiker we picked up in Walker Pass a few years ago
who was hitching to Kernville. I turned on the ventilation full force and
had my face up against the outlet so I could breathe...then there was the
sobo thru-hiker I ran into the year before last, one day out of VVR. By the
reek it seemed that he hadn't taken advantage of the available showers nor
cleaned his clothing there. It was impossible to stand downwind and
breathe.

To answer your questions, NO and NO. Yeah, I read the article. Fine. They
weren't sniffing thru-hikers, I'll bet, even though it WAS Berserkeley.
Take a break from eating and GO SHOWER. In fact, the Jardine method of
tidying up a bit before getting into town isn't a bad idea either.

Thanks for the opportunity to demonstrate my hypersensitivities....

Subject: [pct-l] Sweat = sweet?

A wise woman once said that upon arriving in a trail town the process
was eat, then shower, then eat again. But new research has shown that
he smell of male sweat has some positive effects on the lady folk.

So, women of the PCT-L, you must have smelled a fair few sweaty
hikers in your time. Does it do anything for you? Are we better off
changing our in town task list to "eat, go to a bar and socialise,
eat again"?
