[pct-l] sending water report via pocketmail

That's an interesting idea, Roni, but the only person with the info is Bill
Jeffries, who may not have the time to send out a weekly, updated water report.
Someone else could copy and paste his info, as you said, but it would have to
be just once a week; a daily email might overload the Pocketmail memory
capacity, would take forever to download over the phone (10 minutes?), and isn't
necessary north of Kennedy Meadows.
The Border to KM is 98% of the water report anyhow, so others would have
to decide if they would be willing to do it. It would take someone a lot of
time, but a very brief summary of the critical areas might be more useful.
Also that water report is in table form, which wouldn't come across the
Pmail system. Someone would have to cut and paste just the text. Even it quite
possibly would come across as just a jumble of misaligned pieces of info, due
to the width of the Pmail screen; I'm guessing it would bump a lot of stuff to
the next row or rows. My Pmail service isn't activated yet, so someone try it
with one that is.
Don't forget, those of you with Pmails need to report what you find on
the trail, both water and trail conditions. I did that in 05, and I think Bill
found it helpful; this year it will be critical in S CA, because the water in
every drainage I found in 05 will be non-existent this year.
Bill, I hope this isn't going to overload you. I'll let you tell the list
what's best for you. It might be better for us to just report where there is
water, and skip all the places where there isn't water. Speak to us, oh Great
Water Statistician; let us know what you want to hear. I'll be ahead of the
pack, as I'm starting at Bouquet Cyn Rd, right after ADZ & Mt San Jacinto
(skipped in 05); I won't be the first up there I'm sure, but I may be the first with
a Pmail.
I dread that staggering, uphill, 42 miles out of Mojave from CA-58, past
the apparently failed Golden Oaks Spring, but I'll let all'a y'all (yes,
that's the plural) know what I find - if I live thru it. It's been a long time
since I carried over 50 lbs, but with 10 days of food and 3 gallons of water
uphill, that's what it will take for me. Those who start at the Border will have to
carry 50 lbs all the way to KM, so I guess I shouldn't bitch.
