Subject: Letter to BLM re Golden Oak Springs
I'm pasting a couple of letters here addressed to two people with the BLM in Bakersfield who can help our water situation.
Please pass it on to other groups and friends etc not on the list.
Feel free to cut, paste, edit send to other key figures etc.
Or just add your name and a signature.
According to Mary Barcik, the letters we wrote to the BLM last year is what got Bird Springs Road fixed (the route to her water cache). That was a road. This is only a little spring repair.
There's two letters here so please scroll down.

Dear Ms. Gradek
This letter is concerning the 40 mile stretch of Pacific Crest Trail immediately north of Highway 58 near Tehachapi. Currently it is the most dangerous stretch on the entire 2600 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. As you must know, this has been the driest year on record for southern California since about 1887. Last year, in a good water year, a hiker was found dead in this area with two empty water bottles.
In the past, Golden Oaks Spring has been a reliable water source. This cuts the 40 plus mile dry stretch down to about 23 miles. Currently Golden Oaks is out of commission, just some wet ground and seeps. Nothing is coming out of the pipe and what little water might be left below it in very bad condition. In one month this will be even drier. This can be easily fixed.
Right now about 400 Pacific Crest Trail thru-hikers are starting their journey from Mexico to Canada. That 40 mile waterless stretch is in their path. By then it will be hot. Without Golden Oaks Spring or similarly located water source there may easily be more deaths on that stretch.
Your name has been given as the person who can solve this problem, fix the spring and remove this danger from the path of the Pacific Crest Trail thru-hikers and the many others who hike this trail.
Thank you for your efforts to make the trail a safer place.
Sincerely
