While history and advice are good counsel, your skills and desires should 
decide what is right for you. If folks are comfortable hiking in 
mid-January, more power to them. Too many folks are quick to say "how and 
when". HYOH

For others in up coming years, you really need to try to be to the northern 
border no later than the 10-15th of October. The weather and temps change 
really fast up here this time of year. Quit taking those "0" days just 
because of rain or because you want to party.
