[pct-l] Simplifying Meal Preparation

I learned that variety is the biggest factor for food enjoyment on the
trail. It really depends on what you like. Maybe alternate simplified,
cold food with other periods of warm food and more complex food. Why do you
have to do it only one way. I found the stove to be worth every ounce.

About 30 years agowhile hiking in the Olympics ,I met two canadians who
originally were from austria. They had a favorite bakery in Vancouver that
made large 2 pound loaves of dark rye (big oval loaves) - they put them out
in the sun until they weighed one pound. Then they carried one loaf per
day - homemade jam and bread for breakfast, cheese and bread for lunch, soup
and bread for dinner. They were very happy!! And they had been hiking
partners for many years. One was short, wiry and constantly had to be doing
something. The other was large, heavy and languid. It was a real show to
watch the two of them together and they had great stories.

So simplification can go in a lot of directions.

But personally, I would stay away from most energy bars. They seem to wear
thin really quickly.
