Last year I had to hike 45 miles of Section F during a rainstorm. My
bivy got soaked during an unexpected heavy, heavy rain and I hiked for
30 hours straight until I got to a road and an angel picked me up. Now
Capt Bivy uses a Shire Rainbow tent and I won't go on a trip without it.

Many PCT thru-hikers said that they needed a shelter less than 10 times
on
thier thru-hike. how bad of an idea is it to attempt a thru-hike
without a
shelter? If it were raining, the shelterless hiker would probably have
to
hike until it dried out, to keep body temperature up until the rain
stopped.
