I saw Sam on Mt. Whitney. He summated two days in a row; the first day the
visibility was poor, so he went back the next day (!!!). He had the most
satisfied look in his eyes that you can imagine. I didn't see him after
that, he was moving much faster than me!

Our son, Sam Pichinin, and his buddy, Jordan, started the thru hike on
May 13 at Campo. On July 5 he hitch hiked from Independence to Reno and
flew home to the Seattle area to see his 97 year old Grandma in her last
days. We flew back with him on July 9 and left him at the trail above
Independence on July 11 at about 3 pm. I expected him at his next
resupply station , Vermillion Valley, about 3 days ago. Was that
unrealistic or is it time to get concerned? He's hiking solo now and I
understand that the trip home put him quite a bit behind the pack. Any
advice or are you in contact with anyone in that area who might have
seen him doing ok in the last day or so?

Thanks.

Thank you,
