I and a friend had an experience just past hwy 8 a few years back.  At a confusing trial intersection we stopped to look at the map when a fellow in his 50s wearing nothing but tight spandex shorts with a comouflage print appeared from the brush.  We asked which was the PCT.  He pointed then walked shoeless off ahead carrying a stick over his shoulder with a bag tied on the end like a hobo.  Later we asked hikers ahead and behind if they had seen him.  They thought we were making it up.  So we named him the "Spandex Spirit".
