Furthermore, it wasn't just feet that made the trail. If it were not
for the work crews in the 30's building the passes on the John Muir
Trail, there might be no PCT today. And then there are all the other
trail crews, paid or volunteer, that have built and maintain the trail
to this day. The trail tread and the laws that protect it are manmade,
and all who have and will contribute to its continued existence share in
its glory. I hate to think what could have happened to all this
pristene country if it were all in the hands of private individuals. I
am very thankful for the manmade structures of society that created this
trail and protect it so all of us can use it regardless of our
particular political opinions.
