Carbon Copy Complex Wildfire (Near Mount Rainier)
http://www.inciweb.org/incident/431/

Summary

NOTE: ** Road closures remain in effect on Carbon River Road at
junction of SR 165. See daily update for more closure information. **

The Carbon Copy fire is now a complex. The management team here will
provide oversite on the Bear Gulch II fire north of Shelton. Each fire
will continue posting information separately.

Saturday: Crews continued to improve control lines on the west side of
the fire with black line, hose lays and sprinkler systems. The lower
south edge of the fire was mopped in approximately 300 feet.
Helicopters provided bucket drops on spots outside the main fire
perimeter and assisted with burnout operations. Extremely difficult
terrain with limited access is making progress slow and safety of
firefighters a high concern.

The fire is burning on mostly private land on the north side of the
Carbon River near Old Baldy Mt., burning away from Mt. Rainier
National Park. Steep, rocky terrain with rock cliffs in the northeast
portion of the fire will be difficult to deal with safely.

A spike camp has been established for closer access to the north end
of the fire. No structures are threatened.

and lower humidity. Fire was mainly confined to the drainages and high
fuel concentrations. These areas experienced torching and short uphill
runs when fire aligned with fuels and terrain.
Today's Significant Events

The fire continues to burn laterally east and west. Crews continued to
improve control lines on the west side of the fire with black line,
hose lays and sprinkler systems. The lower south edge of the fire was

Planned Actions

Continue to improve and hold control lines on west side of the fire.
Continue mop-up on lower quarter of fire. Continue recon and scouting
for potential control lines or natural barriers which will be
incorporated into a plan for the difficult ground on the east side of
the fire. Use helicopters to assist burnout operations and for hot
spotting.
Projected Movement

increase in fire behavior is expected, particularly in areas of heavy
fuel. Steep difficult terrain is expected to slow fire containment
progress.
