Don't write off the sandals too quickly.  Really cheap beach sandals -- foam 
sole and Velcro straps -- from Walmart's or Target weigh about 9 oz for Xtra 
large, and serve well for crossing streams and making that midnight nature 
call.  Teva's, at more than twice the weight and 8 times the $$$, aren't the 
best fix for the problem IMHO.
