Gee, and I thought I was the only PCT hiker who still lugged a Gregory.
I have both a Palisade and a Reality. The Reality will save you about 2
pounds of packweight while still providing a great suspension.

I plan to use the Reality in the southern sections, then switch to the
Palisade at Kennedy Meadows, carry it through the Sierra's, then switch
back to the Reality at Sonora Pass. This rationale is based on carrying
a Garcia Can and some extra gear through the Sierra's and shedding those
items at Sonora Pass. The size and shape of the Garcia Can is just a
little too bulky to ride well inside the Reality; the Palisade
accomodates it nicely.

Also, I prefer the Palisade shoulder harness to the Reality's, but they
are interchangeable, so when I change packs, the Palisade shoulder
harness stays with me. One other thing, as you know, the Palisade top
pocket doubles as a fanny pack. I use it and like it for short side
trips. The Reality doesn't have any belt installed on the top pocket,
so I plan to sew some loops on the underside and carry an extra 2 inch
belt to utilize that feature.

Happy trails, Tom
