[pct-l] Esbit Stove/Fuel

After all the comments on Esbit fuel, I'm thinking of trying it out for my January Grand Canyon hike. Two questions:
1. Does the Esbit have any problems with cold weather? I may be trying to cook in temperatures near freezing.
2. Does anybody have any recommendations on where to pick up the fuel in Southern California (specifically Orange County). I've looked a couple of places, but haven't found it yet.
