<<One possible weight savings capability would be using powdered OJ and
providing a premix chamber with the stove>>
don't know about premix chambers [i'm an esbit kinda guy], but powdered OJ
... try Tang. i met another thru-hiker on my '94 AT hike who mixed grain
alcohol with Tang everyday at precisely 4 o'clock ... don't remember his
name, but i'll always remember him ... and his shared thru-hiker "cocktail
hour".

Gee, a friend who favors something called "scotch" (and had a canteen full
<!> on one of our Colorado 'teener trips) immeasureably improved my gatoraid
mix. After a couple of these "whiskey sour" knockoffs, we christened them
"the backpacker special" and have enjoyed them ever since. Sounds ghastly,
but is actually quite good...especially 3rd day out or later <g>.
I've since found that something called "brandy" carried by another companion
works well. Haven't yet tried everclear or other stove fuels, but I bet
they're ok too, especially 3rd day out or more.
Hey Brick, thanks for the tip on www.topozone.com it is EXCELLENT. Wish I
had a faster connection, though.
