This is certainly true.  If you're concerned about pack weight, you have to 
look at the weight of stove plus fuel.  A solo thruhiker who resupplies every 
seven days or so should almost certainly use an alcohol stove.  On the other 
extreme, if you're in a group and cooking pasta for eight, leave that alcohol 
stove at home!
