[pct-l] DEET

On a non-thruhike, DEET work just fine. This is the case where "saving
weight" isn't. An aerosol spray of 27% deet weighs about 12 ounces and has
9 ounces of DEET spray in it. However, lightly dusting your clothing will
stop most bugs most of the time. When they get truly bad simply spray your
legs and arms lightly, then spray some on your hands and rub the back of
your neck. I also carry that 95% liquid Jungle Juice for those rare
occasions when the above approach doesn't work or I run out of spray.
However, it appears that the aerosol is more effective because it is easily
applied to clothes. I have found that pump sprays are not near as effective.

On a thruhike where one is spraying oneself for months on end I would not do
this.
