Lets answer their question. They are starting in May. What shouldn't they
miss? What should they skip?

Not being a thruhiker, my only advice is to leave Kennedy Meadows on July 1
[thus missing most of the snow in normal years] and hike North thru the
Sierra. That 500 miles is considered very interesting by almost everyone.

I also have heard that the Three Sisters area is awesome also.
