I have a butane/propane stove that weighs 3.3 ounces. It simmers very well
and basically never clogs. The main drawback of my stove is that it
requires special fuel that is not availavble in some town stops whereas
alcohol almost always is. It seems that the esbit stove has the same
problem. A thruhiker must arrange to get a fresh supply of fuel and can't
rely on local supply.

Has anyone calculated what the weight per meal of esbit fuel is?
