In below freezing temperatures, gear repair using duct tape can be a bit
of a problem because the stickum is reluctant to stick.  The solution is
to rub the duct tape firmly until it sticks -- ie, heat it up --
preferably with warm fingers, but a mittened hand will do, too.  Also,
scrape ice off surface before applying duct tape.
