[pct-l] West Side Short Trips

Single Day destinations
1-Emerald/Pear lake -Inmy less than humble opinion the best short hike in the
Sierra
2-Twin Lakes-Sequoia NP

Two day destinations
3-Sally Keys Lakes-The first day is 4.5 miles flat to Blayley Hot Springs after
a 3 mile boat shuttle [$15 round trip]. The first day is the classic, up-canyon
walk. The second day is a tough climb, 5 miles, 2,500' elevation. From the
"Public" campgrounds on the river you return to the trail and almost imediately
find a shortcut trail [.9 miles] that climbs about 900' in good forest cover to
the JMT. On the JMT you stay in forest cover for a while before ascending the
obligatory open chapperal slope till you reach a stream crossing. From here you
work around the mountain to another drainage then to Sally Keys Lake.

4-Bear Creek-If you have a 4wd take the Bear Diversion Dam road [not the trail]
to Bear Diversion Dam then work up creek fro 3 miles to Twin Falls [nice spot].
From there do about 1000' of climbing to the JMT and stop at Marie Lake or
continue to Johnson or Three Island Lake
