Any kind of filtration system that sits for any period of time needs to be
flushed out, so I'd suggest you dump the first liter of water filtered. This
helps to lower the amount of iodine concentrated in the filter to acceptable
levels.
When I think I need to filter water, (I don't alway filter), I use my PUR
Voyageur. The first liter is always laden with heavy doses of iodine(can tell
by the funky yellow-orange color and smell). I dump this and do not drink
it, the second liter is much clearer.
