[pct-l] Whitney Exit...

A friend of mine is hiking the JMT this July and when he applied for a
permit, he was told that you had to have a Whitney stamp to even exit
without summiting through Whitney Portal.  He does not intend to camp on
the west side, just pass through.  He was told to exit over a pass
to the south.  

I told him that Whitney Basin is the "mother of all basins" and he is very
disappointed he can't exit over Trailpass.  

He is wondering when he meets a ranger nd doesn't have the right permit,
what the ticket is?  Any knowledge...?
