I always start with a shot of Cuervo Gold myself......

Seriously, I don't personally think that any shots are necessary .  It's not too
hard to avoid tic bites with a little prevention and inspection along the trail.
I would rather trust that technique than any vaccine that is currently being
promoted (by some pretty extreme scare tactics no less) by the large drug
companies.
