Today's ( May 24 ) starting thruhikers must consider the following:

With a finishing date of September 30 at Manning Park, there are 129 days to 
complete the approximate 2650 miles end-to-end. Given 7 layover days, this 
leaves 122 days....a daily average of 22 miles per day necessary to complete. 
With hotter and dryer temperatures in the south and much heavier snow 
accumulations in the north, the prospects are formidable. But PCT thruhikers 
tend to be a plucky sort:
