RE: [pct-l] Hydration Systems

I've use an Osprey (relabled Platypus) hydration system. The plus side is
that I definitely drink more water than when I carry a bottle. The minus
side is (as you guessed) that I have NO idea of how much water I'm drinking.
The other down side is that water trapped in the tubing picks up a flavor.

This brings up an interesting question though... I've read that one should
never ration water... that it is better to drink as much as you want and
then run out than to ration it. On the other hand, the thought of actually
being OUT of water with no way to get more is sufficiently frightening that
I suspect I (and most people) WOULD ration it.

The areas where I've done my hiking have all had plenty of water, but
curious minds want to know!

Any thoughts?
