I, too, use a Platypus system with the hose and bite valve, and that's what
I'm using exclusively on my thruhike this year. I've used one for about a
year now and haven't had any problems with it, except I'm a little nervous
about it getting a little brittle with age. If you do go with it, try to be
a little careful about not been abrasive on it, and try not to do too much
repeat flexing on the bladder itself. I haven't had any problems, but after
4 mos. this summer, I can better tell what they'll take :-) I've liked it a
lot better than water bottles simply because I can drink on the go, and only
have to stop to refill it if I need to. It makes it easier to keep a good
pace.
Have fun!
