Re: [pct-l] Bear Resistant Food Containers - Sierras

You should carry a Bear Can [2 pounds 3 ounces] [www.sierrawilderness.com] in
the Sierra. Otherwise you run the risk of losing your food to a bear [and having
a bear killed by the park service. You can get 18 pounds of food in a canister
if you pack carefully [I have posted instructions]. That should get you from
Kennedy Meadows to VVR.

If you do not carry a canister you should camp where the bear boxs are. This
will work until Woods Creek crossing. After that there are no more boxs.

This does not mean you can't "make it through" without a canister. Many have.
