  In my Sunday post, I think I mentioned not bothering with ice axes etc
until Forrester Pass this year (I've been hiking in the San Gorgonio, San
Jacinto, South Sierra wildernesses lately). Ticks are a pain in the
brushy parts of the San Gabriels, and most folks hate the Sierra
mosquitoes of early summer. Ants drive _me_ nuts everywhere.    bj
