Charlie,

    I would guess the problem stems from people taking these postings
personally.  We are all defensive creatures who don't like criticism, no
matter how much we say we welcome it.  We also like to choose sides, thereby
taking the arguments of two non-related posters personally as well.  This is
what feeds a flame war and drives others for cover.  Even though one of the
original posters stopped, the me too's that jump on the list build this to
an even higher intensity.  Unfortunately, unless all the combatants stop,
the war will grow.  I can solve the problem for myself, just by filtering
out those who continue to fight this war.  The problem is, I then start to
miss the very information and communication on the PCT that I joined this
list for!

    I don't have a solution, just doing a "me too".  I am only hoping that
sense comes to those who would continue this war.  Unfortunately, they may
have crossed over the line where embarrassment of their actions, forces them
to continue.  People get locked in a cycle whereby, in their own minds,
stopping would only confirm they were wrong.  We are all the same, I tend to
talk too much, make a fool of myself, then instead of shutting up, talk even
more, hoping in vain that I can talk my way out of embarrassment.  (much
like I am doing now ;-)  ).
