Mike,

Around here (Rochester, NY) they are sold in supermarkets.  I've never used
one in an oven, but I think their purpose in "the real world" is to keep
drips from burning onto the bottom of the oven.  They are made of very thin
aluminum... sort of like an extra extra heavy duty aluminum foil.
