[pct-l] What are 99 thru hikers doing about bear / food issues?

Assumming you want to use a Bear Cannister in Bear Country ..
as a thru hiker what's the easiest thing to do:
1. buy a bear cannister & have it mailed to you in a resupply box before bear
country
2. rent them on the way?
3. or give up & not use a bear cannister in bear country, use bear boxes
where they exist & pray where they dont?

What are all the current people planning a thru hike planning on doing about
the bears / food issue in bear country?

a. carry/use bear cannister 
b. hang food - (& practice stealth camping)
c. sleep w/ food next to them/in tent - (also, OBVIOUSLY assuming stealth
camping away from popular sites)
