[pct-l] 1998 Bear Experiences

The only marauding bear we encountered last year was just south of Donahue
Pass around 1,000 Island Lake. The bear terrorized a number of other hikers
that were camped near us as well as some others who were behind us. We also
saw a bear roaming around the campground at Tuolumne Meadows. The guide
book says that the northern part of Yosemite is bad for bears, we didn't
see any but we also cooked well away from our campsite there. Further north
we saw all kinds of bears on the trail, all the way to section O. They were
quite afraid of us and ran immediately. We slept with food in our tents all
through these sections and tried to avoid well used campsites.
