All things considered, seems like everything worked out.  You saved your food,
you got to do big miles and you came out of lurking!  

Seriously though, bears appear to be a very resourceful creature.  It's only a
matter of time before they figure out how to get your food.  Bear boxes and
cannisters, may very well be the best method of assuring you have food in the
morning, but are not always convienent and/or practical to a long distance
hiker.  From what I've read, bear bagging by any means may be the least
practical. 

One poster wrote, if you continue to keep your food in your tent, you may end
up food yourself.  I don't agree.  I believe, if you are willing to protect
your food, a bear is wise enough to understand. 

Of course, I may be wrong.  To me, it's just part of the allure!
