Re: [pct-l] Geritol

Dear All:

As I wind down from a tough day at work, ready to brave the 20 minute drive
cross town to Ballard I can't help think of how quick we are to categorize.
Maybe it's my weariness from a 12 hour day, or it's a sense of confusion
about it all. Geritol or hiker, young or old. So quick to take issue we
are, and sometimes, offense...

I went to the sports medicine doctor today to ask about what I thought was
plantar fascitis, heel spurs, or just plain foot pain. I'd been to this
fellow before for knee problems, and he said my problem was "tight buns",
meaning my gluteus minimus muscles were so tight to be dysfunctional. He
gave me two stretching exercises and in two weeks my knees were fine, after
being swollen and pain wracked for a couple months. I stopped doing the
exercises and when my knees started acting up again six months later, I did
them for two weeks more. You get the idea.

He said the problem with my feet was the same with my knees. tight buns.
The reason the incipient foot pain hadn't gone away is that it takes longer
for the feet to receive the benefit of the stretching than it does the
knees. I quit doing the exercises to early to help my feet. He showed me
how i was over-pronating, and how one knee moved inwards when I did a knee
bend.

When I was younger it was cigarettes and booze, the urge to hurry up and
experience life. Now it's stretch and relax, and then another 20 mile day.
If I'm blathering, I apoligize. I haven't posted in a while and need to
wind down out of SPSS land...
