Wednesday's Wall Street Journal (Jan 13 1999) has a front-page article
about the car-clouting bears in Yosemite. The problem seems to be
getting a lot worse in recent years, with the bears learning what cars
can be easily opened and looted. Favorite car to "clout" is the Honda,
followed by Toyota.
They will open cars even when food is not visible if they have recently
found goodies in a similar model... for those of you not familiar with
this phenomenon, bears "open" cars by tearing windows out or ripping
the doors off.
Puts the use of "bear cans" in a whole new perspective.
