I had an Avocet. It was very good, easy to use and easy to read. Cost I
think was less than $100. This Suunto is a little better but double the
price. I was unhappy with the Casio. It was bulky, hard to read and hard to
set. The key to all Altimeters is the ability to quickly set the altitude
when you reach a known location.

To repeat, an altimeter is merely fun on the PCT. It ain't necessary.
