I first saw one of these stove in action at Kearsarge Lakes in Kings Canyon
N.P. this past August. Elevation there is about 11,000 feet or so. The
Esbit stove seemed completely unaffected by the altitude, though I wasn't
paying close attention. Thinking about it now, that makes sense to me;
there's no reason why an open flame would be affected by altitude, unless
the altitude were so extreme as to deprive the flame of oxygen. Caveat
here: my statistical sample on this issue is very very small (i.e. exactly
one instance).

BTW, Kearsarge Lakes are only a few miles of easy hiking off the JMT and
well worth the effort. The beauty is breathtaking, and the area would make
an excellent campsite for someone doing the JMT imo.
